Resumo Considerando que a formulação de índices de perigo de incêndios auxilia no planejamento das atividades de prevenção e combate, refletindo de forma antecipada a probabilidade de ocorrência e de propagação dos incêndios florestais, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo realizar o ajuste e validação da Fórmula de Monte Alegre para áreas de cultivo de eucalipto no Estado de São Paulo. Foram utilizados dados de umidade relativa do ar, precipitação pluviométrica e registros de ocorrência de incêndios florestais no período de 11/10/2003 a 29/04/2016. Para a análise, o conjunto de dados foi dividido em duas partes, sendo que as observações entre os anos de 2003 e 2013 (75%) foram utilizadas para o ajuste da FMA, enquanto os dados referentes aos anos de 2014 a 2016 (25%) foram utilizados para validar a nova classificação gerada conforme o estabelecimento dos novos valores limiares de distinção entre a classes de perigo de incêndios. Os resultados demonstraram que o estabelecimento de novos limiares para as definições das classes de perigo proporcionou melhorias na eficiência da Fórmula de Monte Alegre em prever a ocorrência de incêndios na região de estudo.

Abstract Considering that the formulation of fire danger index helps in the planning of prevention and combat activities, revealing, in advance, the probability of occurrence and spread of forest fires. This work aimed to adjust and to validate the Fórmula de Monte Alegre for areas of eucalypt cultivation in the state of São Paulo. Data on relative humidity, rainfall and records of forest fires from 10/11/2003 to 4/29/2016 were used. For the analysis, the data set was divided into two parts, with the observations between years 2003 and 2013 (75%) being used to adjust FMA, while the data referring to the years 2014 to 2016 (25%) were used to validate the new classification generated according to the establishment of the new threshold values of distinction among the fire danger classes. The results showed that the establishment of new thresholds for the definition of the danger classes provided improvements in the efficiency of the Fórmula de Monte Alegre in predicting the occurrence of fires in the study region.

Resumo A definição das zonas de vida de Holdridge é uma ferramenta útil para o planejamento da gestão territorial dos recursos naturais, bem como para subsidiar a elaboração de estratégias e políticas públicas que resultem na definição de áreas prioritárias para conservação e uso sustentável das florestas. Desse modo, o presente estudo teve por objetivo identificar e descrever as zonas de vida que ocorrem no estado do Ceará com base no modelo de Holdridge. Para esse propósito, foram utilizados dados de precipitação anual, biotemperatura e relação de evapotranspiração potencial. Os resultados indicaram que, embora o estado do Ceará esteja majoritariamente sob a influência de um macroclima semiárido, apresenta um espaço geográfico heterogêneo, no qual ocorrem diferentes zonas de vida associadas à diversidade bioclimática. A variável bioclimática mais importante para a classificação das zonas de vida foi a relação de evapotranspiração potencial, que representa a quantidade de água que é transferida para a atmosfera em relação a quantidade de água que é precipitada em determinado local. A classificação climática de Holdridge identificou oito zonas de vida em que todas pertencem à faixa latitudinal tropical e abrangem faixas altitudinais basais (90,04% do território cearense) e premontanas (9,96%), que variam em termos de umidade, desde florestas muito secas até florestas úmidas. A zona de vida mais extensa compreende as áreas de transição entre floresta muito seca e floresta seca tropical basal, ocupando 64.825,69 km2, que recobre 43,54% da área total do estado.

Abstract The Holdridge life zone approach is a useful tool for planning the territorial management of natural resources as well as for supporting the development of strategies and public policies that result in the definition of priority areas for conservation and sustainable use of forests. Thus, in the present study, we aimed to identify and describe the life zones that occur in the state of Ceará based on the Holdridge model. For this purpose, we used data on annual precipitation, biotemperature and potential evapotranspiration ratio. The results indicated that, although the state of Ceará is mostly under the influence of a semi-arid macroclimate, it presents a heterogeneous geographic space, in which different life zones associated with bioclimatic diversity occur. The most important bioclimatic variable for the classification of life zones was the potential evapotranspiration ratio, which represents the amount of water that is transferred to the atmosphere in relation to the amount of water that is precipitated in a given location. The Holdridge climatic classification identified eight life zones, all located in the tropical latitudinal zone and basal (90.04% of the Ceará territory) and premontane (9.96%) altitudinal zones, which vary, in terms of humidity, from very dry forests to humid forests. The most extensive life zone comprises the transition areas between very dry forest and basal tropical dry forest, occupying 64,825.69 km2, which covers 43.54% of the Ceará territory.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar as alterações na organização de uma comunidade arbórea causadas pelo efeito de borda em um remanescente de Floresta com Araucárias no sul do Brasil. Foram instaladas cinco transeções de 100 x 20 m na área de estudo, perpendiculares às bordas florestais, subdivididas em dez parcelas. Foi definido como setor borda a distância de 0-50 m e o interior, após 50 m. Todas as árvores com circunferência na altura do peito ≥ 15,7 cm foram mensuradas, identificadas e classificadas em guildas de regeneração. Os setores foram comparados por meio do teste t, para variáveis com distribuição normal, teste de Mann-Whitney, para distribuições não normais, rarefação, para a riqueza, e teste de qui-quadrado aplicado a uma tabela de contingência, para verificar a distribuição dos indivíduos das diferentes guildas de regeneração. A setorização em função da borda e interior representou uma importante fonte de heterogeneidade florestal, uma vez que a parte mais marginal do fragmento caracterizou-se por apresentar um componente arbóreo de maior densidade, menor altura média e predomínio de indivíduos de espécies exigentes em luz. Do ponto de vista de conservação da biodiversidade da Floresta com Araucárias, o presente estudo sugere a necessidade da conservação de fragmentos cujo tamanho e configuração espacial permitam a existência de áreas de interior, com o propósito de contemplar a proteção de espécies não tolerantes às condições de borda.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate changes in the organization of tree species communities due to edge effects in a forest remnant in southern Brazil. Five transects were installed in the study area, perpendicular to the forest edge, with the dimensions of 100x20 m, subdivided into ten plots. The edge sector was defined for the distance of 0-50 m and the interior for the distance of 50-100 m. All trees with circumference at breast height ≥ 15.7 were measured, identified and classified into regeneration guilds. The sectors were compared using the t test for normally distributed variables, Mann-Whitney test for non-normal distributions, rarefaction, for richness, and Chi-square test applied to a contingency table, to check the distribution of individuals of different regeneration guilds. The sectorization as a function of edge and interior represented an important source of forest heterogeneity, once the most marginal part of the fragment was characterized by a tree component of higher density, smaller average height and prevalence of individuals of light demanding species. In the context of biodiversity conservation of the Araucaria Forest, this study suggests the need for conservation of forest fragments which size and spatial configuration allow the existence of interior area, in order to contemplate the protection of non-tolerant species of edge conditions.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to characterize the floristic-structural heterogeneity of the tree species in an alluvial forest remnant considering three sectors: forest-river edge, forest interior and forest/non-forest matrix edge. Forty-eight plots of 200 m 2 were allocated and all tree individuals with a diameter at breast height (dbh) equal to or greater than 5 cm were measured and identified. Data was analyzed by Shannon’s diversity index, Pielou evenness and phytosociological descriptors. Plots were ordered through NMDS. Sixty-six species were sampled and Myrtaceae was found to be the richest family. Diversity and evenness reached 2.96 and 0.71, respectively. Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B.Sm. & Downs presented the highest importance value (21.22%). The NMDS showed that tree components are spatially partitioned according to sectors, therefore indicating floristic-structural heterogeneity.

RESUMO O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a contaminação biológica ao longo do tempo em uma comunidade arbórea em estágio sucessional avançado/tardio da Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana, adjacente a um plantio de Pinus taeda L. em Lages - SC. Para isso, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 20 x 20 m, distribuídas em cinco transeções de cinco parcelas cada, alocadas perpendiculares à borda de contato com o plantio de pinus. Em cada parcela foram mensurados (DAP ≥ 5 cm, medido a 1,30 m do solo), coletados e identificados todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos. Quatro anos após o primeiro inventário, os mesmos indivíduos foram novamente inventariados, quantificando-se os indivíduos mortos, sobreviventes e adicionando os recrutas. Para os dois períodos foram calculados os descritores fitossociológicos, quantificados os indicadores de invasão para a comunidade como um todo e grupos ecológicos e calculadas as taxas demográficas. No primeiro ano foram amostradas 73 espécies e no segundo 74 espécies, dentro das quais, duas foram exóticas: Pinus taeda e Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton. Ambas tiveram baixos valores dos indicadores de invasão para a comunidade nos dois anos, no entanto, com aumento da participação de Pinus taeda entre as espécies pioneiras ao longo do tempo. Os resultados das taxas demográficas sugerem que, para os diferentes grupos ecológicos, o processo de invasão encontra-se em fases distintas. Conclui-se que o grupo das espécies pioneiras foi o componente mais afetado pela invasão biológica, o que reforça a necessidade de análise, considerando os diferentes grupos ecológicos.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to evaluate the biological contamination over time in a tree community of Montane Araucaria forest, in advanced successional stage, adjacent to a Pinus taeda L. plantation, in Lages, SC state. For this sake, a total of, 20 x 20m, 25 plots, distributed in five transects with five plots each, were allocated perpendicular to the edge in contact with the pinus plantation. In each plot, all living trees were measured (cbh ≥ 5 cm, measured at 1.30 m above soil level), collected and identified. Four years after the first inventory, the same individuals were re-inventoried, the dead individuals and survivor quantified and recruits added. For the two evaluated years, phytosociological descriptors were calculated, indicators of biological invasion quantified for all community as well as for ecological groups and the demographic rates determined. A total of 73 and 74 species were sampled in the first and second years, among of them two exotic species: Pinus taeda and Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton. Both species showed low values of the invasion indicators, but with an increment in the participation of Pinus taeda among pioneer species over time. Results of demographic rates suggest that, for different ecological groups, the invasion process is in distinct stages. We conclude that the pioneer species was the most affected component by biological invasion, which reinforces the need for analysis considering the different ecological groups.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivos conhecer a organização da comunidade e a estruturação filogenética do componente arbóreo de um fragmento de Floresta Nebular em Urubici - SC. Para isso, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 400 m2, nas quais foi medida a circunferência a altura do peito - CAP, e identificadas todas as árvores com CAP igual ou superior a 15,7 cm. Foram calculados o índice de diversidade de Shannon-Wiener e os descritores fitossociológicos. A síndrome de dispersão de propágulos e a distribuição espacial de cada espécie foram determinadas. A estruturação filogenética foi avaliada por meio dos valores de Mean pairwise distance (MPD) e de Net Relatedness Index (NRI), calculados a partir de uma árvore filogenética construída em função das espécies amostradas, de uma matriz de abundância das espécies por parcelas e 1.000 simulações de uma comunidade organizada filogeneticamente de forma aleatória. A estruturação espacial das métricas filogenéticas foi analisada por meio do Índice I de Moran. Foram amostrados 1.579 indivíduos, pertencentes a 33 espécies, sendo Myrtaceae a família de maior riqueza de espécies. O baixo valor de diversidade (2,43), associado à baixa riqueza na área, é esperado em Florestas Nebulares, cujo ambiente é tipicamente seletivo. A maior representação na floresta foi de Myrceugenia euosma (O.Berg) D.Legrand (VI = 24,51%). A síndrome de dispersão predominante foi a zoocoria (84,85%), seguida pela anemocoria (15,15%), e a distribuição espacial foi predominantemente agregada. A comunidade apresentou variação em relação à estruturação filogenética, sendo que, para a maioria das parcelas, o padrão não diferiu do modelo nulo de completa aleatoriedade.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to survey the community organization and the phylogenetic structure of tree species component in a nebular forest, in the municipality of Urubici, Santa Catarina state. A total of 25 plots (400 m2) were allocated, where all trees with circumference at breast height (cbh) equal or superior than 15.7 cm were measured (cbh) and identified. The Shannon index and phytosociological descriptors were determined. The dispersal syndromes of propagules were determined and the spatial distribution of each species was analyzed. The phylogenetic structure was evaluated by the values of 'Mean Pairwise Distance' (MPD) and Net Relatedness Index (NRI), determined through a phylogenetic tree built in function of the species sampled, an abundance matrix of species by plots and 1,000 simulations of a community with phylogenetic randomness organization. The spatial structure of the phylogenetic metrics was analyzed through I Moran Index. A total of 1,579 trees were sampled, belonging to 33 species, with Myrtaceae as the richest family. The low value of diversity (2.43), associated to low richness, is expected for nebular forest, where the environment is typically selective. The most representative species in the forest was Myrceugenia euosma (O.Berg) D.Legrand (VI = 24.51%). The predominant dispersal syndrome was zoochory (84.85%), followed by anemochory (15.15%); and the species showed predominantly a clustered spatial distribution. The community had variation in relation to the phylogenetic structure, with most plots showing no significant difference from the null model of complete randomness.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como principal objetivo avaliar a dinâmica de populações de espécies arbóreas, em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana, no Município de Lages, Santa Catarina - SC, ao longo de um período de quatro anos (2008-2012). Para isto, para todas as espécies amostradas em 50 parcelas permanentes de 10 x 20 m, foram determinadas as guildas de regeneração [Pioneiras (P), Climácicas Exigentes em Luz (CEL) e Climácicas Tolerantes ao Sombreamento (CTS)] e as taxas de dinâmica (mortalidade, recrutamento, ganho e perda em área basal, mudança líquida em abundância e área basal). A existência de associação significativa entre as guildas de regeneração e os padrões de dinâmica foi verificada por meio de testes de qui-quadrado, aplicados a tabelas de contingência. Mudanças das participações relativas das guildas de regeneração entre os anos foram analisadas por meio de testes de proporção. No ano 2008 foram verificadas 87 espécies (P: 9, CEL: 64, CTS: 11 e não classificadas: 3), 1.841 ind.ha-1 e 36,17m2.ha-1. Em 2012, verificaram-se 86 espécies (P: 9, CEL: 63, CTS: 11, não classificadas: 3), 1.882 ind.ha-1 e 39,17m2.ha-1. A maior parte das espécies apresentou ganho em abundância e área basal. Dentre as mais abundantes, as maiores taxas de recrutamento e ganho em área basal foram observadas para Banara tomentosa Clos, com, respectivamente, 5,43%.ano-1 e 6,08%.ano-1, e as maiores taxas de mortalidade e perda em área basal ocorreram para Zanthoxylum rhoifolium Lam., com, respectivamente, 7,75%.ano-1 e 4,74%.ano-1. Não foi verificada associação significativa entre os padrões de dinâmica observados e guildas de regeneração, cujas participações relativas na comunidade no período avaliado, permaneceram constantes. Desta forma, conclui-se que o fragmento florestal se encontra em fase de instabilidade estrutural, indicada pelo incremento no número de indivíduos e área basal, e estabilidade florística sucessional, em função da baixa substituição florística e manutenção da importância relativa das guildas de regeneração ao longo do tempo avaliado.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to evaluate the tree species population dynamics in a fragment of Montane Araucaria Forest, in the municipality of Lages, Santa Catarina (SC) state, along a period of four years (2008-2012). For this, for all species sampled, in 50 permanent plots of 10x20m, the regeneration guilds [pioneer (P), light-demanding climax (LDC) and shade-tolerant climax (STC)] and dynamics rates were determined (mortality, recruitment, loss and gain in basal area, net change in abundance and basal area). The existence of significant association between regeneration guilds and dynamic rates was verified by chi-square tests, applied to contingency tables. Changes in relative participation of regeneration guilds between years were analyzed using proportion tests. In 2008, 87 species were found (P: 9, LDC: 64, STC: 11, non-classified: 3), 1.841 ind.ha-1 and 36.17 m².ha-1. In 2012, 86 species (P: 9, LDC: 63, STC: 11, non-classified: 3), 1.882 ind.ha-1 and 39.17 m².ha-1 were observed. Most species showed gains in basal area. Among the most abundant, the highest rates of recruitment and basal area gain were observed for Banara tomentosa Clos, with, respectively, 5.43%.year-1 and 6.08%.year-1, and the highest rates of mortality and basal area loss occurred for Zanthoxylum rhoifolium Lam., with, respectively, 7.75%.year-1 and 4.74%.year-1. No significant association between the dynamics patterns and regeneration guilds was observed, whose relative participations in the community, during the evaluated period, were constants. Therefore, it is possible to conclude that the forest fragment is in the process of structural instability, indicated by the increment of the number of individuals and basal area, and floristic-successional stability, due to the low floristic substitution and maintenance of the relative importance of the regeneration guilds, along the evaluated period.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi inventariar a regeneração natural arbórea de um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial no Planalto Sul Catarinense, avaliar a dissimilaridade entre o estrato regenerante e adulto do mesmo fragmento e verificar o compartilhamento florístico da regeneração natural entre fragmentos na região. Os regenerantes foram amostrados em 48 parcelas, sendo estes identificados e classificados de acordo com a altura em: Classe 1, plantas com altura entre 15 cm e 1 m; Classe 2, plantas com altura entre 1 e 3 m; e, Classe 3, plantas com altura maior que 3 m e DAP (diâmetro à altura do peito) menor que 5 cm. A composição dos indivíduos adultos da área e de regenerantes de outros fragmentos foi obtida do banco de dados do Laboratório de Dendrologia do CAV/UDESC. A estrutura do componente regenerativo foi avaliada por meio de descritores fitossociológicos. A dissimilaridade entre o componente regenerante e adulto foi determinada por meio das distâncias de Jaccard, Sorensen e Bray-Curtis. A análise do compartilhamento florístico da regeneração de diferentes áreas foi realizada por meio de um dendrograma. Foram amostrados 818 indivíduos pertencentes a 59 espécies, sendo Allophylus edulis (A.St.-Hil. et al.) Hieron. ex Niederl. a espécie de maior importância relativa. A dissimilaridade entre os regenerantes e adultos foi baixa (0,24 a 0,43), sugerindo que existe baixa substituição florístico-estrutural entre os componentes. A área estudada apresentou maior vínculo florístico (<40% de dissimilaridade) com outros fragmentos espacialmente próximos, sugerindo que altitude e temperatura representam importantes fatores ecológicos na compartimentalização fitogeográfica deste componente.

ABSTRACT This study aimed at inventorying the natural regeneration of tree species in an Alluvial Araucaria Forest in the "Planalto Sul Catarinense" region, SC, Brazil; evaluating the dissimilarity between its adult and regenerative components; and verifying the natural regeneration floristic sharing among its different fragments. The regenerative component has been sampled and identified within 48 plots and classified according to the following height classes: Class 1, plants with height varying from 15 cm up to 1 m; Class 2, plants with height varying from 1 and 3 m; and Class 3, plants with height higher than 3 m and DBH (diameter at breast height) smaller than 5 cm. The floristic composition of adult individuals in the area and of regenerative individuals from other fragments has been obtained from the database of the Laboratory of Dendrology of CAV/UDESC. The structure of the regeneration was evaluated by phytosociological descriptors. Dissimilarity between the adult and the regenerative components has been determined by Jaccard, Sorensen and Bray-Curtis distances. The regeneration floristic sharing analysis of different areas was conducted by a dendrogram. A total of 818 individuals belonging to 59 species have been sampled, being Allophylus edulis (A.St.-Hil. et al.) Hieron. ex Niederl. the species with the greatest relative importance. Elevated similarity between the regenerative and adult components have been observed (from 0.24 to 0.43), suggesting a low floristic-structural turnover between components. The area under study have shown a greater floristic connection (<40% of dissimilarity) with other spatially close fragments, indicating that altitude and temperature are important ecological factors for its phyto-geographic compartmentalization.

RESUMO O presente estudo objetivou verificar a relação entre a organização da comunidade arbórea e variáveis ambientais em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista. Para isso, na localidade da Coxilha Rica, no planalto sul catarinense, foram alocadas 50 parcelas de 200 m2 em um fragmento florestal, no qual foram amostrados, medidos (circunferência a altura peito, CAP) e identificados todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos que apresentaram CAP igual ou superior a 15,7 cm. Em cada parcela, foram obtidas as variáveis ambientais: topografia, cobertura do dossel e características químicas e físicas dos solos. Foram calculados os estimadores fitossociológicos e ordenadas as parcelas em função da abundância das espécies, por meio da análise NMDS (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling ). Em seguida, foi realizado ajuste entre a ordenação produzida e as variáveis ambientais, com as variáveis significativas (p ≤ 0,01) plotadas na forma de vetores. Foram amostrados 1.447 indivíduos, distribuídos em 69 espécies. Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) DC. foi a espécie de maior valor de importância (VI=10,43%). Nas áreas com terreno mais declivoso, com maiores cotas altimétricas médias e com solos menos férteis, com maiores teores de MO, Al e Na, destacou-se a presença, entre outras espécies, de Drimys brasiliensis Miers. Nas áreas com o terreno mais plano e solos com maior fertilidade e menores teores de MO, Al e Na, foi comum Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B. Sm. & Downs. Conclui-se que a topografia e as características químicas dos solos foram determinantes para a heterogeneidade florístico-estrutural no fragmento estudado.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to verify the relationships between tree species organization and environmental variables in a fragment of Araucaria Forest. To do so, in the locality of Coxilha Rica, in the region called "Planalto Sul Catarinense" region, a total of 50 plots of 200 m2 were allocated in a forest fragment, where all living trees with CAP (circumference at breast height, measured at 1.30 m above ground) greater than or equal to 15.7 cm were sampled, measured and identified. Environmental variables related to the terrain, canopy cover and soil chemical and physical properties were obtained for each plot. Phytosociological estimators were calculated and the plots ordinated in function of species abundance by NMDS analyze (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling ). Then, the environmental variables were fitted to the produced ordination, being those significant variables (p ≤ 0.01) plotted as vectors. A total of 1,447 individuals, distributed in 69 species were sampled. Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) DC. was the most relative important species (10.43% of IV). Drimys brasiliensis Miers stood out in steeper areas, with higher elevation and with less fertile soils, with greater values of OM, Al and Na. Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) LB Sm & Downs and others stood out in flat areas, with more fertile soils and low content of OM, Al and Na. We concluded that terrain and soil chemical properties represent an important source of floristic-structural heterogeneity in the study fragment.

O presente estudo objetivou conhecer os padrões da composição florística e estrutural do componente arbóreo de um trecho de remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana em Campos Novos - SC e determinar as variáveis ambientais que influenciam estes padrões. Para isso, foi amostrado 1 ha de floresta por meio de 50 parcelas de 10 × 20 m dispostas de forma sistemática, distanciada 30 m entre si, no remanescente florestal. Dentro das parcelas foram identificados e mensurados (circunferência medida a altura do peito, CAP, e altura total) CAP, e altura total) todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos com CAP ≥ 15,7 cm. Os dados ambientais relacionados às propriedades químicas e físicas dos solos e à topografia também foram coletados em cada parcela. Foram calculados o índice de Shannon-Wiener (H'), a equabilidade de Pielou (J') e os estimadores fitossociológicos. A organização florístico-estrutural do fragmento foi analisada por meio de uma NMDS (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling). As variáveis ambientais foram ajustadas a posteriori à ordenação produzida, sendo aquelas significativas (p < 0,05) plotadas na forma de vetores. Foram amostrados 1.027 indivíduos, que totalizaram uma área basal de 43,57 m2, distribuídos em 88 espécies e 41 famílias botânicas. A diversidade do remanescente estudado foi relativamente alta (H'=3,59) e a dominância baixa (J'=0,80). A espécie de maior VI foi Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (14,44%). A análise multivariada NMDS indicou um gradiente florístico-estrutural relacionado à cota média (altitude), saturação de bases, pH e teores de P nos solos.

In order to identify the floristic and structure patterns of the tree component and to determine the environmental variables that influence these patterns in a sector of montane Araucaria Forest remnant, 50 plots of 10 × 20 m were allocated, using systematic sampling, 30m apart from each other, in Campos Novos, SC. Within the plots, all living trees with cbh (circumference at breast height) ≥ 15,7 cm were identified and measured (cbh and total height). Environmental data related to chemical and physical properties of soils and topography were also collected from each sampled plot. To describe the tree vegetation richness, diversity and structure, the Shannon-Wiener index (H'), the Pielou evenness index (J') and the phytosociological estimates were obtained. The floristic and structural organization of the fragment was analyzed through a NMDS (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling). The environmental variables were fitted a posteriori in the produced ordination, being those significant (p < 0.05) plotted as vectors. A total 1.027 individuals were sampled, which represented a basal area of 43.57 m2, distributed in 88 species and 41 families. The diversity of the fragment studied was relatively high (H'=3.59) with low dominance (J'=0.80). The specie with higher VI was Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (14.44%). The NMDS indicated a floristic-structural gradient related to the mean elevation (altitude), soil base saturation, soil pH and P soil content.

O objetivo desse estudo foi caracterizar a composição florística e a estrutura do componente arbóreo em fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Alto-Montana e avaliar a influência do efeito de borda sobre a organização, estrutura, riqueza e diversidade de espécies. Foram alocadas 50 parcelas permanentes de 10 x 20 m, divididas em cinco transeções distanciadas, no mínimo, 100 m entre si, em um fragmento florestal, no município de Bom Jardim da Serra - SC. As árvores com circunferência ≥ 15,7 cm na altura do peito (CAP) foram mensuradas (CAP e altura total), identificadas e classificadas quanto às guildas de regeneração (pioneiras, climácicas exigentes em luz e climácicas tolerantes à sombra). Os dados foram analisados por meio dos índices de valor de importância (IVI), NMDS (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling), modelo aditivo generalizado e regressões lineares simples. Foram observados 1.457 indivíduos arbóreos, distribuídos em 29 famílias, 43 gêneros e 55 espécies. A espécie com maior valor de importância foi Dicksonia sellowiana Hook. Não foi observada influência do efeito de borda sobre a organização, a estrutura (diâmetro médio, altura média e densidade) da comunidade e participação relativa das guildas de regeneração. No entanto, ficaram evidenciados maiores valores de diversidade, riqueza e equabilidade nas áreas de borda. Desta forma, concluí-se que parte das variações dos valores relativos à diversidade de espécies arbóreas na Floresta Ombrófila Mista Ato-Montana foi determinada pela distância da borda.

The objectives of this study were to characterize the floristic and structure of the tree component in Upper Montane Araucaria Forest fragment and to evaluate the influence of the edge effects on tree species organization, structure, richness and diversity. For this, a total of 50, 10 x 20 m, permanent plots divided in five transects spaced, at least, 100 m from each other, were established in the a forest fragment, located in the municipality of Bom Jardim da Serra, SC. The trees with circumference at breast height (CBH) ≥ 15,7 cm were measured (CBH and total height), identified and classified according to the regeneration guilds. The data were analyzed through the index of importance values (IVI), a NMDS analysis (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling), a generalized additive model and simple linear regressions. A total of 1,457 individuals, distributed in 29 families, 43 genera and 55 species were surveyed. The most relative important species was Dicksonia sellowiana Hook. There was no influence of edge effect on tree community organization, structure (average diameter, average height and density) and guilds participation. However, values of diversity, richness and evenness were higher at edge areas. We conclude that part of the variation in values related to tree species diversity in the Upper Montane Araucaria Forest was determined by edge distance.

RESUMOEste estudo teve por objetivo analisar como a distribuição e riqueza de espécies raras em fragmentos de Floresta Ombrófila Mista ocorrem ao longo de um gradiente altitudinal. Para isso, espécies arbóreas (diâmetro à altura do peito > 5 cm) foram amostradas em 10 fragmentos florestais localizados em diferentes pisos altitudinais do Planalto Sul-Catarinense, em uma área total de 10 ha. As espécies que apresentaram número de indivíduos igual ou inferior a 2 em pelo menos um fragmento foram classificadas como raras. A distribuição das espécies foi verificada por meio de dendrograma construído a partir do índice de distância florística de Jaccard e do algoritmo de agrupamento UPGMA. A riqueza total de espécies por fragmento e o número de espécies raras foram comparados entre as subformações montana e alto-montana, por meio do teste de Mann-Whitney (U). As relações entre altitude e os valores de riqueza total e número de espécies raras em cada fragmento foram determinadas por regressões lineares simples. Os resultados indicaram a formação de dois grandes grupos de espécies raras em função do piso altitudinal. Apesar de a riqueza total das comunidades reduzir com o aumento da altitude, o número de espécies raras não apresentou alterações significativas. Conclui-se que na região do Planalto Sul-Catarinense os fragmentos de Floresta Ombrófila Mista apresentam diferentes conjunto de espécies arbóreas raras de acordo com a altitude e que a diminuição da riqueza das comunidades com o aumento do piso altitudinal não é acompanhada pela redução do número de espécies raras.

ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to analyze how the distribution and the richness of rare tree species occur along an altitudinal gradient, in Araucaria Forests fragments. For this purpose, tree species (diameter at breast height > 5 cm) were sampled in 10 forest fragments located on different altitudinal floors in “Planalto Sul-Catarinense” region, totaling 10 ha of sampling area. The species with only one or two individuals in at least one fragment were classified as rare. The species distribution was verified by a dendrogram constructed through the Jaccard floristic distance index and the UPGMA clustering algorithm. The total species richness per fragment and the number of rare species were compared among montane and upper-montane sub-formation by the Mann-Whitney (U) test. The relationship between altitude and values of total richness and number of rare species in each fragment were determined by simple linear regressions. The results indicated the formation of two groups of rare species, in function of the altitude floor. Despite the fact that total richness of communities decreased with increasing altitude, the number of rare tree species did not significantly change. We conclude that in the “Planalto Sul-Catarinense” region, the fragments of Araucaria Forest have different set of rare tree species according to altitude and that the reduction of the richness of communities with increasing altitudinal floor is not accompanied by a reduction in the number of rare species.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a composição florística e a estrutura da regeneração natural em um setor onde ocorreu a mortalidade sincronizada de um maciço de taquara (Merostachys multiramea Hackel) (CT) e em uma área adjacente, com dossel contínuo e ausência de taquara (ST), em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana em Lages - SC. Foram alocadas 14 unidades amostrais de 5 x 5 m (seis no setor CT e oito no setor ST), nas quais todos os indivíduos arbóreos regenerantes com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) ≤ 15 cm e altura ≥ 25 cm foram identificados e mensurados (diâmetro do colo). As famílias com maior riqueza de espécies foram: Myrtaceae (nove), Solanaceae (seis) e Aquifoliaceae (quatro). O setor ST apresentou um índice de diversidade de Shannon de 2,73 e o setor CT apresentou o valor de 2,31. Solanum variabile, Piptocarpha angustifolia, Mimosa scabrella, Jacaranda puberula e Solanum pseudoquina foram as espécies de maior valor de importância (VI) no setor CT. As espécies de maior VI no setor ST foram Myrsine lorentziana, Casearia decandra, Cinnamodendron dinisii, Drimys brasiliensis e Ilex paraguariensis. Os resultados mostraram que a mortalidade sincronizada de indivíduos de taquara influenciou na variação espacial dos descritores florísticos e estruturais da regeneração natural de espécies arbóreas.

The present study aimed to analyze the floristic and structural descriptors of tree species natural regeneration in a forest sector with synchronized bamboo (Merostachys multiramea Hackel ) die-off (CT) and an adjacent area with continuous canopy cover (ST) in an araucaria forest fragment in the municipality of Lages, Santa Catarina state. A total of 14, 5x5m, plots (six plots in CT sector and eight in ST sector) were allocated, where all tree species regenerative individual with circumference at breast height smaller than 15cm and height higher than 25cm was measured (diameter at soil level) and identified. The richest families were: Myrtaceae (nine), Solanaceae (six) and Aquifoliaceae (four). The Shannon Diversity Index in ST and CT sectors were respectively 2.73 and 2.31. The species with the highest importance values in CT sector were Solanum variabile, Piptocarpha angustifolia, Mimosa scabrella, Jacaranda puberula and Solanum pseudoquina. In ST sector, the species with highest importance values were Myrsine lorentziana, Casearia decandra, Cinnamodendron dinisii, Drimys brasiliensis and Ilex paraguariensis. The results showed that the synchronized bamboo die-off influenced the spatial variation in the floristic and structural descriptors of the tree species natural regeneration.

Este estudo teve como objetivos avaliar a similaridade florística do componente arbóreo de 39 remanescentes de florestas superomontanas no domínio atlântico, Brasil, e analisar a influência de variáveis geográficas e climáticas sobre os padrões observados. Foi utilizada uma matriz binária de presença e ausência das espécies arbóreas compiladas dos 39 levantamentos florísticos e fitossociológicos. Para conhecer a relação da composição florística das áreas com variáveis ambientais e espaciais, foram extraídas as coordenadas geográficas e os dados climáticos de cada área. Com o objetivo de avaliar a similaridade florística dos remanescentes, foi utilizado um dendrograma e, para determinar a influência de variáveis ambientais e espaciais sobre os padrões florísticos, foi utilizada a análise multivariada NMDS. O dendrograma e a NMDS demonstraram a formação de agrupamentos, predominantemente entre remanescentes localizados em uma mesma unidade fitogeográfica. Observou-se a existência de um gradiente ambiental ligado às condições climáticas. Em áreas com maiores valores de sazonalidade térmica, amplitude térmica anual, precipitação, latitude e longitude, ocorreram florestas superomontanas com matriz ombrófila e, em áreas com maiores valores de temperatura média, amplitude térmica diária, isotermalidade, sazonalidade da precipitação e temperatura mínima no mês mais frio, ocorreram predominantemente florestas com matriz estacional.

This study investigated the floristic similarity of the tree component of 39 upper montane forest fragments in Atlantic domain, Brazil, and the influence of geographic and climatic variables on the patterns observed. It was created a binary matrix of presence and absence of the tree species compiled from the 39 floristic and phytosociological survey. For the relationship of the floristic composition of the areas with the environmental and spatial variables, the geographic coordinates and climate data of each area were extracted. The floristic similarity of the fragments was measured using a dendrogram and for determination of environmental and spatial variables influence on floristic patterns, a nonmetric multidimensional scaling analysis (NMDS) was used. The dendrogram analysis and the NMDS showed the formation of clusters, predominantly among fragments located in the same phytogeographic unit. The existence of an environmental gradient based on the climatic conditions was observed. In areas with higher thermal seasonality, annual temperature range, precipitation, latitude and longitude, upper montane forests with rain forest matrix occurred, and in areas with higher average temperature, daily temperature range, isothermality, seasonality of precipitation and minimum temperature in the coldest month, upper montane forests with seasonal matrix occurred.

Este estudo objetivou avaliar a invasão por espécies arbóreas exóticas em dois fragmentos (F1 e F2) de Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM) em Lages, SC. Foram alocadas 25 parcelas por fragmento, distribuídas em cinco transeções de 20 x 100 m, perpendiculares às bordas e com distância de 100 m entre si, onde foram avaliados os indivíduos dos estratos adulto (DAP - diâmetro à altura do peito > 5 cm) e regenerante (DAP < 5 cm e altura >10 cm). Esses foram identificados e mensurados (circunferência e altura). Foi calculado, para as espécies de cada estrato e de cada fragmento, o Índice de Invasão Biológica (IIB). A relação entre o IIB e a distância da borda foi verificada por meio de regressões lineares simples. O agrupamento de espécies exóticas e nativas foi determinado por meio de correlações de Spearman e de dendrogramas. Foram amostrados 3.701 indivíduos distribuídos em 105 espécies, sendo cinco espécies invasoras. No F1 houve valores de IIB relativamente baixos (0,05 e 0,54), com Pinus taeda L., obtendo-se a maior participação na invasão, e esse esteve agrupado com espécies nativas pioneiras. Os IIB´s no F2 foram altos (0,61 e 1,96), principalmente pela elevada participação de Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton., que ficou agrupado a espécies típicas da FOM. Não foi observada relação entre a distância da borda e a intensidade da invasão biológica. Os resultados indicaram que os fragmentos apresentaram diferentes padrões de invasão biológica, determinados pela natureza da matriz de entorno e pelas características ecológicas das espécies invasoras.

This study evaluated the invasion by exotic tree species in two Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (FOM) fragments (F1 and F2) in Lages, SC. A total of 25 plots were allocated in each fragment, distributed in five transects, 20x100 m, perpendicular to the edges and, at least, 100 m apart from each other, where the adult (dbh - diameter at breast height > 5 cm) and the regenerative (dbh < 5 cm and height > 10 cm) component individuals were evaluated. These were identified and measured (circumference and height). For each component and fragment, the biological invasion index (BII) was determined. The relation between BII and the distance from the edge was evaluated by simple linear regressions. The grouping among exotic and native species was analyzed through Spearman correlation and clusters. A total of 3,701 individuals distributed in 105 species were sampled, being five invasive species. In F1 a relative low value of BII (0.05 and 0.54) occurred, with Pinus taeda L. as the most expressive species in the invasion, and it was grouped with native pioneers species. The BII's in F2 were elevated (0.61 and 1.96), mainly due to the expressive participation of Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton., grouped with typical species of FOM. No relation between the distance from the edges and the intensity of the invasion were observed. The results demonstrated that the fragments showed different biological invasion patterns that were determined by the nature of surrounding matrix and the ecological characteristics of the invasive species.
